Spiced Baked Apples

These baked apples taste just like hot crossed buns! Serve them as a side with the meat of your choice (any kind of pork works really well) or even as an Easter dessert with vanilla custard.

Spiced Baked Apples with Pork Chops
Serves 4

You will need
4 Small Apples
3 Tbls Walnuts or Pecan nuts, chopped
2 Tbls Cranberry, sultana and raisin mix, chopped
¼ Cup Brown sugar
1 Tbls Butter, melted
¼ tsp Cinnamon, ground
¼ tsp Nutmeg, ground
1/8 tsp Colves, ground

4 Pork Chops
Braai seasoning

How to make it
Pre heat the oven to 180°C.
Combine all the ingredients (except the apples).
Core the apples and stuff them with the raisin, nut & spice mix.
Place the apples on a greased baking tray.
Bake for 25 – 30 minutes until the apples are tender.
Remove from the oven, cover with foil and rest for 15 minutes.

Season the pork chops and cook on a hot griddle pan until done.

Serve the warm baked apples with the pork chops.

Tips

-          If you prefer a saucier baked apple (as opposed to a toasted caramelised one) dissolve the sugar in ¼ up water (or half water half brandy) before mixing with the rest of the ingredients.
